On a spring evening in Lynchburg, South Carolina, the life of 32-year-old Roosevelt Ellis Durant Jr. was cut short by gunfire. The fatal encounter occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 12, 2020, at what law enforcement described as an illegal gathering. The event was being held at a closed-down club on Gertie Circle, in violation of a gubernatorial executive order prohibiting such assemblies.
