In the quiet town of Ridgeway, South Carolina, a tragic event unfolded that cut short the life of a young man. Nineteen-year-old Charles Javon Byrd Jr. of Blythewood was found fatally shot on February 7, 2021. His body was discovered in a parking lot situated on Longtown Road, a discovery that prompted an immediate and thorough homicide investigation by local law enforcement.

As the investigation progressed, authorities worked diligently to piece together the events that led to Byrd's untimely death. Their efforts came to fruition months later with the apprehension of two suspects. In a significant development, two 17-year-olds, one from Winnsboro and the other from Ridgeway, were taken into custody. The first arrest occurred on July 28, 2021, with the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. This was followed by the arrest of the second teen just two days later, on July 30. Both teenagers faced serious charges, including murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The arrests brought a glimmer of hope for justice to Byrd's grieving family and friends. Funeral services for Charles Javon Byrd Jr. were held on February 15, 2021, at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, where he was laid to rest.
