In the early morning hours of August 22, 2021, a dispute outside a downtown Gaffney, South Carolina nightclub tragically cut short the life of 28-year-old Roberto Marquis Porter Jr. The altercation occurred just before 1 a.m. outside Club Apex on Birnie Street. Responding to the incident, police discovered Porter in a parking lot across from the club with a fatal gunshot wound.
He was rushed by EMS to Cherokee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and shortly after the incident, Gaffney police arrested 19-year-old Quntavis Keshun Eison. He was charged with the murder of Roberto Porter Jr. Reports indicate that prior to the deadly shooting, city police had been called to Club Apex to address a fight that had broken out inside the establishment.
In March 2024, Quntavis Keshun Eison pleaded guilty to the 2021 murder of Roberto Marquis Porter Jr. Following his guilty plea, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting. Born on July 19, 1993, to Roberto and Sabrina Porter, Marquis, as he was known to loved ones, was a father to two children, a son and a daughter, and a stepfather to another child. His funeral service was held on August 30, 2021, at Green Bethel Baptist Church, where he was also laid to rest.
