In the late summer of 2021, the life of 30-year-old Heather Renee Jordan was tragically cut short in Cayce, South Carolina. A mother and a daughter, her death was not the result of a random act of violence, but rather the culmination of a dispute among acquaintances that turned deadly.
On the evening of September 25th or the early morning of September 26th, Heather, along with three others, were reportedly involved in a burglary or theft.
Following the crime, the group gathered at a residence on Northland Drive in Cayce to use drugs and discuss their recent activities. It was during this gathering that an argument erupted, leading to a fatal confrontation. One of the individuals, then-18-year-old Kendall Lamont Moody, shot Heather in the head. In an attempt to conceal the crime, her body was moved and hidden within the home.
The Cayce Department of Public Safety was alerted to a potential incident at the Northland Drive home by a nearby resident on the morning of September 26th. Upon investigation, officers discovered Heather's body. The subsequent investigation moved swiftly, and the following day, Kendall Lamont Moody was arrested and charged with her murder, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The investigation did not end there, as law enforcement delved deeper into the events surrounding the murder.
Two other men, 39-year-old Michael Allen Ponder Sr. and 18-year-old Charles Cavin Craft, were also implicated in the crime. They were not present at the moment of the shooting but were linked to the homicide for their alleged roles in assisting Moody after the fact, including helping to move Heather's body. Both Ponder and Craft were subsequently arrested and faced charges of accessory after the fact to murder. Craft faced a litany of additional charges related to a separate incident involving a police chase and a stolen vehicle. The investigation revealed that the murder was a targeted act, stemming from the internal conflict within the group. In November of 2023, Kendrick Lamar Moody, also identified as Kendall Lamont Moody, pleaded guilty to the murder of Heather Renee Jordan and was sentenced to 38 years in prison.
