In a quiet corner of Edgefield County, a grim discovery was made on a Sunday evening in September 2022. A hunter, scouting in a wooded area off Deep Step Road, stumbled upon the body of a man, later identified as 42-year-old Christopher Lathrop, a white male from the local area. The discovery launched an intensive investigation by the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, who quickly determined that Lathrop had not died of natural causes.
