In the early morning hours of October 29, 2022, the life of 30-year-old Devonte Devario Byrd was tragically cut short. Responding to a call about a shooting, law enforcement and emergency services arrived at an apartment complex on the 200 block of Old Mill Road in Mauldin, South Carolina. There, they discovered Mr. Byrd, a resident of Greenville, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of those at the scene, Devonte Devario Byrd was pronounced dead at
approximately 3:38 a.m. The Greenville County Coroner's Office confirmed his identity and that his death was the result of the shooting. News of the young man's violent death prompted an immediate investigation by the Mauldin Police Department.
