The investigation into Ralpheal Kennedy's death
led to the arrest of three individuals. Jakevious Raheim Lynch and Aaron Rainey were charged with first-degree murder, while Amber Deaton was charged with felony accessory after the fact for allegedly providing transportation for Rainey to South Carolina. Lynch and Rainey were close friends, and Rainey's sister mentioned that Rainey might have been present at the scene but was not the gunman. Both Lynch and Rainey faced life imprisonment without parole if convicted of first-degree murder. Deaton was held at the Gaston County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
In November 2018, Jakevious Raheim Lynch pleaded guilty to second-degree murder to avoid a first-degree murder trial. He was sentenced to 16 to 20 years in prison for his involvement in the drive-by shooting that resulted in Ralpheal Kennedy's death. This plea deal brought some closure to the case, although the pain and loss experienced by Kennedy's family and friends remain profound.
