Detective Sergeant Charles E. James of the Pine Lawn Police Department in Missouri was tragically killed on January 9, 1983. He was shot while serving a search warrant at a residence on Grimshaw Avenue. As the first officer to enter the home, he was met with gunfire from the suspect inside. Despite the immediate danger, the other officers on the scene managed to apprehend the shooter.
