On the early morning of August 10, 2014, the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, Missouri, became the scene of a violent ambush that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Black male named Stephon L. Cunningham, Sr. The incident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest Boulevard and Broadway, a time when the city streets were dark but still active.
