Gonder, a 26-year-old from Neosho, was taken into custody in connection with Shellenberger's death. The investigation suggested that a dispute between the two men escalated tragically. Reports indicate that the confrontation began inside a residence and spilled out into the yard, which is where the shooting occurred. Authorities were alerted to the sound of gunshots, and upon their arrival, they discovered Shellenberger's body. Gonder was apprehended at the scene without resistance.
Following his arrest, the Newton County prosecutor filed formal charges against Trenton L. Gonder.
