Kuhpes Jesse Ikosia, aged 53, tragically lost his life on August 12, 2007, in a shooting incident at the First Congregational Church in Neosho, Missouri. The incident occurred during a Sunday afternoon service attended by the Micronesian community, who had gathered to worship in their native language, Pingelapese. The shooter, Eiken Elam Saimon, stormed into the church and opened fire, killing three people, including Kuhpes Jesse Ikosia, and wounding several others.
