In the early evening hours of a north Saint Louis neighborhood, tragedy struck as 40-year-old Stanley Sparkling was fatally wounded in a brazen drive-by shooting. The incident unfolded at approximately 5:30 p.m. as Sparkling was seated on the porch of a residence on the same block where he lived. The barrage of gunfire also left five other individuals wounded, creating a scene of chaos and panic.
Responding officers discovered Sparkling unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to
his head. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved to be fatal. Among the other victims were two men who were sitting in a nearby car and sustained critical injuries. Additionally, two women suffered graze wounds, and a third woman was injured but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the shots were fired from a sport utility vehicle that quickly fled the area after the assault.
