On the evening of March 4, 2019, 19-year-old Riley S. McCrackin, a White male from Belton, Missouri, was fatally shot in the rear parking lot of the Raytown Recreation Pool Hall in Raytown, Missouri. Earlier in the day, McCrackin had been playing pool and was reportedly persuaded to go to the parking lot by two female acquaintances. Surveillance footage from that night showed McCrackin waiting in the parking lot, looking at his phone, just before 11 p.m.
He was then approached by two individuals who emerged from behind a dumpster and the building, both of whom brandished handguns and opened fire, striking McCrackin multiple times. The shooters then fled the scene on foot. An investigation of the scene by law enforcement recovered five. 45-caliber shell casings and three 9mm shell casings.
The investigation into McCrackin's death quickly led to the identification of four suspects, all in their late teens or early twenties at the time. Authorities identified Logan England and Tynan Mullen as the two shooters. Two other teenagers, Kaci Cox and Mackenzie Hyatt, were also implicated in the crime. It was revealed that Hyatt had driven the getaway car, a white Dodge Dart, which was parked down the street. According to Hyatt, the plan had been to 'squash beef' with McCrackin. In a chilling turn of events, shortly after the shooting, Cox and Mullen returned to the pool hall and were seen among the crowd of mourners, even comforting McCrackin's girlfriend.
Logan England surrendered to Raytown police seven days after the shooting. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. In September 2021, a Jackson County judge sentenced England, then 22, to 20 years in prison for the murder and a concurrent three-year sentence for armed criminal action. Tynan Mullen was charged with first-degree murder. Kaci Cox and Mackenzie Hyatt were both charged with second-degree murder. Hyatt pleaded guilty to her charges in October 2021. The case also led to further legal troubles for England and Cox, who were later charged in connection with the 2018 shooting death of 17-year-old Makayla Brooks. In February 2022, Riley McCrackin's father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the four individuals charged in his son's murder.
