In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in St. Louis, tragedy struck Devontay Sanders, a 24-year-old man. On March 12, 2019, while driving eastbound in the Vandeventer neighborhood, the car he was in became the target of a drive-by shooting. Unknown assailants opened fire, and in the chaos that ensued, Sanders was struck by the gunfire.
The impact of the shooting caused him to lose control of the vehicle, which then crashed into a tree.
When police responded to the scene in the 4100 block of C.D. Banks Avenue around 12:45 a.m., they found Sanders and another man inside the car. Devontay Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. A 24-year-old passenger in the vehicle was also shot and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The investigation into the double shooting and subsequent death of Devontay Sanders is ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case.
