In the spring of 2019, the life of a young, 22-year-old African American woman, Tia Buress, was tragically cut short in St. Louis, Missouri. On the evening of May 27th, Buress was found inside a white Chevrolet Impala near the Lumiere Place Casino, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving her family and friends to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
Another individual, a man who was with her in the vehicle, was also shot and critically injured but ultimately survived the attack.
The investigation into the shooting leaned heavily on surveillance footage from the area, which captured the chilling moments leading up to Buress's death. The footage showed a tan Oldsmobile Alero pulling alongside the Impala she was in. Shots were then fired from the passenger side of the Alero, striking Buress in the head.
