On the night of July 18, 2019, Todd McGraw, a 50-year-old White/Caucasian male, was fatally shot in his Raytown, Missouri, home. Responding to a call just before midnight in the 8400 block of Elm Avenue, police discovered McGraw inside the residence with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial reports to the police, made by McGraw's wife, indicated that the shooting was an act of self-defense. She claimed her teenage son had shot McGraw because he was attacking her.
Following the incident, one individual was taken into custody by the Raytown police. However, this person was later released, and as of late 2019, no formal charges had been filed in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains open.
The family of Todd McGraw, many of whom live in Indiana, expressed profound distress and frustration over the circumstances of his death and the subsequent lack of information. They first learned of his passing through a 'R.I.P.' message posted on his Facebook page. McGraw's aunt, Sharon Barnes, voiced the family's skepticism about the self-defense claim, stating that police had informed her that her nephew was unarmed and had been shot in the back of the head. The family also noted that McGraw was cremated before they could travel to the Kansas City area, and they were concerned about what they perceived as a lack of communication from McGraw's wife. Todd McGraw was a U.S. Navy veteran and had worked as a district manager for a wholesale plumbing supply company for 12 years. He was a father to three daughters. His family remembers him as a loved one and continues to hope for a full understanding of the events that led to his death.
