Daniel Lydell Brock was a 31-year-old Black male resident of Saint Louis, Missouri, whose life was abruptly ended on the afternoon of June 27, 2020. He was situated on a porch in the Walnut Park West neighborhood, a residential area in the northern part of the city. At the time of the incident, he was accompanied by two other men, aged 37 and 22. The group was socializing when the sudden sound of gunfire erupted, targeting the porch where they were gathered.
While the two men with him
miraculously escaped the barrage of bullets unharmed, Brock was struck in the torso. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed to the gunshot wounds. The violent nature of the attack in broad daylight left the local community shaken, particularly because the shooters managed to execute the assault without immediately being apprehended by law enforcement or detained by witnesses in the vicinity.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation immediately following the shooting. Detectives processed the scene and later announced that they had identified three men as suspects believed to be responsible for the attack. Despite this identification and the public release of information urging witnesses to come forward to the Homicide Division or CrimeStoppers, investigators did not immediately release specific names or descriptions of the individuals to the general public.
As the investigation continued over the following years, the case remained open. Reports from as recently as late 2024 indicated that while the three suspects had been identified early on, no formal arrests or charges had been publicly announced, and authorities continued to seek information that could lead to a successful prosecution. Daniel Brock is survived by his wife, Martisha, his son, Daniel Lydell Brock Jr., and his mother, Bertha, along with several siblings who continue to wait for justice in his unsolved murder.
