On a late summer evening in 2020, a seemingly trivial flirtation at a fast-food drive-thru escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 17-year-old Dominic Williams-Wood. The male teenager from Fenton, Missouri, was shot and killed on September 4, 2020, following a dispute that began at a Steak 'n Shake in his hometown.
According to accounts from two friends who were with Williams-Wood that night, he had been flirting with a female employee at the drive-thru window.
This interaction drew the attention of the employee's boyfriend, who had arrived to pick her up from work. An argument ensued between Williams-Wood and the boyfriend, with discussions of a physical fight. The boyfriend then left in a silver van, and Williams-Wood decided to follow.
The pursuit continued for several miles, with shouting exchanged between the two vehicles. Williams-Wood eventually stopped his car in front of a driveway where the van had pulled in. It was at this point that an individual near the van reportedly fired two or three gunshots towards Williams-Wood's car. As Williams-Wood attempted to drive away, more shots were fired, and he was struck by a bullet, causing him to crash his vehicle into a fence. His two friends, fearing for their own safety, fled the scene. When authorities arrived, they found Dominic Williams-Wood slumped over in his car with a gunshot wound to his side; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led police to 30-year-old Cartez McKire Jr. of High Ridge. Following the incident, McKire Jr. was arrested and subsequently charged by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action. He was held in jail without bond.
