In a tragic turn of events that concluded near Warsaw, Missouri, four-year-old Kaiden Alex Peak, his three-year-old brother Mayson, and their father, Darrell Peak, were found deceased on March 1, 2021. The grim discovery was made inside a structure by powerline workers, bringing a devastating end to a search that began days earlier. The investigation into the deaths ultimately concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide.
The chain of events began on February 25, 2021, when Darrell
Peak, 40, drove away from his family's home in Greene County with his two sons. He was armed with a pistol he was known to carry. Concerns for their welfare grew, and they were reported missing. Later that same day, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper encountered Darrell and his sons with their disabled vehicle in Benton County. Darrell declined any assistance. A short time later, a Benton County deputy spotted a man and two children walking along the highway, but they disappeared into the woods before contact could be made.
Subsequent investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Benton County Sheriff's Office revealed a troubling background. Darrell Peak had a history of depression and had made suicidal statements in the past. Despite this, family members had expressed their belief that he would never harm his children. Tragically, the investigation determined that Darrell Peak fatally shot both of his sons before taking his own life.
Due to the circumstances of the case being a murder-suicide, there were no other suspects identified, and no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Kaiden and Mayson Peak. The incident left the community in a state of shock and mourning over the loss of the two young boys.
