In the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis, a burst of gunfire shattered the late afternoon calm on a Wednesday. When the sounds of the shootout subsided, 46-year-old Mark Burton, a male, lay dead, having been fatally shot in the head around 5 p.m. near North Broadway and Halls Ferry Road. The incident, which unfolded on August 11, 2021, prompted a swift police investigation that would soon lead to arrests in connection with the killing.
The day after Burton’s death, the St.
Louis Circuit Attorney's Office brought charges against a 24-year-old man, Courtlend D. Green. Investigators alleged that Green was involved in the fatal shooting. Court documents detailed evidence from surveillance footage that reportedly captured Green and another individual in a shootout with Burton. Green was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, with a judge ordering him to be held without bail.
Further investigation into the fatal encounter led to a second arrest nearly nine months later. In May 2022, authorities charged 28-year-old Randall O. Jackson in connection with Burton's death. Jackson faced the same serious charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, marking the second major development in the case. Both men were taken into custody based on the evidence gathered by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
