In the early hours of September 17, 2021, the life of 30-year-old Jamie Willard was tragically cut short in a violent encounter within an abandoned apartment building in Saint-Louis, Missouri. Willard, a female resident of High Ridge, was discovered shot to death alongside another woman, 31-year-old Patrice Wimbley. The grim scene was located in the 2900 block of Kossuth Avenue, situated near the Fairground and Hyde Park neighborhoods.
A third woman, aged 42, was also a victim of the shooting but managed to survive her injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to 62-year-old Charles Anderson. At the time he was identified as a suspect, Anderson was already in custody in the nearby city of Jennings on charges unrelated to the murders. He had been detained for approximately two weeks before being formally charged in connection with the deaths of Willard and Wimbley. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shootings or provided an explanation as to why the three women were inside the vacant residence.
Following the investigation, Charles Anderson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Jamie Willard and Patrice Wimbley. In addition to the murder charges, he also faces three counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree assault, the latter charge presumably related to the third woman who survived the attack. The case against Anderson represents a significant step towards seeking justice for the victims and their families.
