In the North Pointe neighborhood of St. Louis, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded on February 28, 2022, culminating in the death of 44-year-old Thomas Anderson III. That evening, police discovered Anderson on a lawn in the 4800 block of Norwich Place with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The grim discovery was not an isolated incident.
The following morning, the body of another man, 32-year-old Tyler Vaughn, was found approximately 100 feet away in the 4900 block of Goodfellow Avenue. Vaughn had also been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the two homicides quickly led authorities to a single suspect, Deandre Walton. The motive behind the killings was determined to be Walton's belief that Anderson and Vaughn had stolen a catalytic converter from a vehicle he was repairing. This belief allegedly prompted a violent confrontation that ended with the shooting deaths of both men. The close proximity of the two victims and the timing of their deaths suggested a connected double homicide.
Deandre Walton was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the deaths of Thomas Anderson III and Tyler Vaughn. In August 2024, a jury found Walton guilty on all counts. Following his conviction, in September 2024, a judge sentenced Deandre Walton to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received two additional 15-year sentences for the armed criminal action charges, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the murders of the two men.
