I’ve been thinking a lot about the bravery of Deputy Carl Koontz and how the community came together to honor him in such meaningful ways. I recently visited the Markland Bridge that was renamed in his memory. Standing there, taking in the peaceful surroundings, it struck me how deeply he touched the lives of those in Howard County. Though I didn’t know him personally, the fact that this bridge now stands as a tribute to his courage and commitment speaks volumes about the respect and admiration he earned. It's heartwarming to see how his legacy continues to inspire so many people, reminding us of the sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day. If anyone else has visited the bridge or the historical marker in Russiaville, I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you feel these tributes help keep his memory alive?
