I've been thinking a lot about Kailene's case, and I just can't get over how utterly senseless it all seems. Being hit with the reality that someone's life can be taken away in an instant due to carelessness is just overwhelming. I read that Kailene was just sitting in her car, doing something as simple and everyday as putting on makeup. It's a gut punch to realize how fragile life is. I'm stuck on the idea that the system seems to have let Michele and Kailene’s family down. I mean, how can someone be out on bond so quickly after causing a young woman’s death? I understand the legal reasons behind the lesser charge, but it just doesn't feel right or fair. My heart goes out to her family and friends who have to live with this outcome every day. We need to remember Kailene by continuing to talk about her story and pushing for better accountability in situations like these.
