I recently came across the case of Joseph Greco and Donald Burton’s murders back in 1959, and it’s been on my mind. I can't stop thinking about what Joseph Greco's family must have gone through. Losing someone so young and in such a violent way must have been incredibly traumatic. It makes you wonder how organized crime in an otherwise quiet town like Rockford was able to have such a deadly grip on the community. I also think about the families living their everyday lives unaware of the danger lurking just beneath the surface. It’s been over six decades, and with no arrests or convictions, it’s haunting to think that those involved in the crime could have lived out their lives without facing justice. It must be incredibly frustrating for the families to not see any resolution. Does anyone have more insight into how the Rockford police approached organized crime during that era? I imagine there were so many complexities when the local police had to deal with syndicates tied to the Chicago Outfit.
