I can't stop thinking about Juan Ramon Ortiz's incredible journey and how dedicated he was to his studies and community. It's clear he had such a bright future ahead of him. I read that he graduated magna cum laude back in Puerto Rico and was already pursuing a master's at Virginia Tech, which is no small feat. It's just heart-wrenching to think about all the dreams and plans he had with his new wife, and how this senseless act abruptly ended everything.
Knowing he was teaching a class that day speaks volumes about his commitment to helping others learn and grow. It feels especially painful to think about because he was probably doing something he loved when it all happened. I hope his family finds some solace in the scholarships and memorials set up in his name—it’s a testament to the impact he had on those around him. This whole thing is such a reminder about the importance of mental health awareness and ensuring campuses are safe and supportive environments for everyone. My heart goes out to all the families affected.
