I recently came across an interview with Jermaine Huntley's fiancée, and it reminded me of the ripple effect that violence has on families and communities. She was pregnant with their daughter when Jermaine was tragically taken from them. I can’t even begin to imagine the strength it must have taken to bring a child into the world amidst such a loss. It's easy to get caught up in the details of the investigation and the legal proceedings, but sometimes we forget about the personal stories that lie behind these cases. Jermaine had a future, plans with his fiancée, dreams he wanted to achieve, and a little one on the way. The community of Asbury Park not only lost a bright young man but also witnessed how deeply violence can impact innocent lives. I hope that justice brings some semblance of closure to his family, but we should keep them in our thoughts beyond the courtroom decisions.
