Has anyone else been following the trial of Michael Mayse closely? I've been thinking a lot about the impact this has had on the Newark community and especially on Michael J. Waters' family and friends. It's difficult to imagine the pain they must be experiencing knowing that a loved one was taken so violently. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies in catching Mayse seemed to be quite a feat. It's heartening to see such dedication to bring someone responsible for multiple heinous crimes to justice, but it also makes me think about the deeper issues of gun violence that plague our cities. New Jersey, like many places, continues to face battles with this type of violence, and I'm hopeful that more impactful measures will be taken to prevent others from experiencing such devastating losses. For now, I just hope Waters' family finds some measure of peace as the legal process continues, and that we can collectively work towards a future with fewer tragedies like this.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Michael J. Waters and what his family must be going through. It's impossible to imagine their grief. He was just 36, with so much life ahead of him. It’s such a tragedy that his life was cut short in such a violent way. The neighborhood has seen its share of violence, but this really struck a nerve, especially happening on Halloween when families should be enjoying the evening together. With Michael Mayse’s arrest, I hope it brings some peace, though I know it can't bring Michael back. It's unsettling to think that Mayse was linked to another crime in Orange. It makes you wonder about what more can be done to prevent someone from taking such a path. Newark has to double down on addressing gun violence and figure out ways to keep our streets safe. Sending love and strength to Michael’s family and hoping for positive change in our community.
