Has anyone looked into the possibility of Nathan having stopped somewhere off his initial route before the tracks ended in the water? I know the region around Russian Mission and Marshall can be tough to navigate, especially in poor visibility or drifting snow conditions. Local areas like woodlands or old camps could have easily obscured alternate paths. Also, does anyone know if there were weather anomalies reported around that time? Just thinking about how sudden changes could have influenced the snow machine's path or if it could have been a factor in him veering off-course. This just doesn't add up fully, especially since both his snow machine and weapons were found, but no other signs of him. Wondering if local search efforts looked beyond just the immediate vicinity of where the tracks disappeared. Thoughts?
Has anyone here been following Nathan's case from 2001? I've been digging into the details and came across a map of the area around Russian Mission and Marshall. It's pretty remote and desolate, which might explain why the search couldn't find him. I wonder if the Yukon River's unpredictable conditions at that time of year could have played a part. Anyone have insights on typical weather conditions there around March? Or maybe other cases around the area we could compare it to? Trying to wrap my head around how such a thing can happen, especially with someone familiar with those terrains.
I was reading about Nathan's case again and I can't stop thinking about how risky it is to travel on the Yukon River during that time of year, especially so early in the morning. It's common knowledge that mid-March can be unpredictable with the river ice. Do you guys think he maybe wasn't familiar with the area's dangers, or could something else have gone wrong with the snow machine? It's puzzling that his gear was found, but no sign of him. Anyone here familiar with the conditions around that time?
