I’ve been following the discussions around Shavonne C. Barnes' tragic case, and something I can't stop thinking about is her role as a Team Leader at Burger King and FedEx. Despite being so young, Shavonne was juggling multiple responsibilities—that says so much about her character and drive. It’s clear she had her eyes set on a promising future, and it’s a terrible loss not only for her loved ones but also for any workplace she brightened with her presence. For other young people in Saginaw and elsewhere, Shavonne stands as a powerful example of determination. Balancing work, extracurriculars, and school honors is no small feat. I truly hope this tragic event reminds us of the incredible potential in young people like Shavonne, and the need to cherish and protect that bright future for them—and for all of us. My thoughts continue to be with her family and friends. I can't imagine what a difficult journey this must be for them, and I hope they can find some form of peace and justice in the outcome of this case.
