Has anyone else thought about how brave Omar Dinneh was during this tragedy? I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma that he and the kids must have gone through that night. Diving to protect his son in the face of such danger shows a level of courage I’m not sure many of us could muster. And then to find Mya like that, knowing it was too late to save her… it’s just overwhelming to think about. It’s times like these when a community’s support truly matters. I really hope that the community continues to support him and the children as they try to heal from this. Sending strength to them all.

The part of Mya Kelly's case that keeps sticking with me is the role of the getaway driver, Marquise Welch. While Keyante Newbern was rightfully found guilty, Welch’s involvement makes me wonder where accountability begins and ends in situations like this. It's chilling to think about how decisions made in a moment can have such dire consequences. What's deeply upsetting is how Welch's testimony was crucial in securing a conviction. It makes me think about the dynamics that drive someone to become complicit in such a heinous act. Does the weight of his cooperation lessen the impact of his initial involvement? Should there be more repercussions for those who facilitate these crimes, even if they eventually decide to testify? My heart goes out to Mya's family and especially her children. It's unimaginable to process loss of this magnitude. Hopefully, there's some solace in knowing a dangerous person is no longer free, and I hope the community's support continues to uplift them as they navigate this difficult path.
