Does anyone else find it odd that Roy’s disappearance happened during the tournament? I've read a bit into fishing tournaments, and it seems like everyone is so wrapped up in the event that it's easy to let things slide. Was there enough oversight in terms of checking in and out? Considering Roy’s experience and the fact that he was fishing in a competitive setting, wouldn’t there have been more boat traffic that might have noticed something off? It’s strange that even with all the witnesses that should have been around, there weren't any concrete reports of unusual activity or distress calls. Makes you wonder if the search efforts right after the event were hampered by delayed responses or communication issues...
Was anyone else curious about the engine on Roy Takatsuki’s boat still idling when it was found? It's an interesting detail. If he had fallen overboard while fighting a fish, wouldn’t he have cut the engine? Unless it all happened so fast that he didn’t have time. It makes me wonder if something else could've distracted him or went wrong on the boat.
Also, I read somewhere that he was meticulous about his boat, always maintained it well and checked everything before heading out. Yet, it drifted 10 miles from where he was fishing, which seems a long way to go without someone at the helm. Did something mechanical make it drift or was it the current? Hoping others might have insights or know more about the conditions at sea that day.
I've been following the Roy Takatsuki case and can't help but wonder about the fishing gear on the boat. It's been mentioned that the lines were still in the water when *Beverley* was found. Did anyone ever look into whether there might have been a malfunction with the reel or if any signs of struggle could be seen on the equipment? Given he was such an experienced angler, if something unexpected happened with the gear, it might have contributed to him ending up overboard. I know it's been years, but has anyone come across any updates from fishing gear manufacturers or experts who might shed light on this aspect? It's just hard to imagine what led to that moment, especially knowing how seasoned he was with the sea.
