I was reading about the disappearance of Matthew Curley, the young diver who vanished near Waialae Beach Park back in 2011, and I keep coming back to the idea of underwater currents. It's known that the ocean around Hawaii can be quite unpredictable. Has anyone looked into whether any unusual currents or weather conditions were reported on the day he went missing? The dive location, being half a mile offshore with depths of 60 to 80 feet, sounds like it could be affected by powerful tides or surges. I'm just wondering if this could have impacted his ability to resurface. Also, does anyone know if the dive company had a history of similar incidents or safety violations? If not, it's perplexing that one moment he was part of the group, and then he was gone without a trace. Just brainstorming on what might have gone wrong out there. Thoughts?

Has anyone else been following the Matthew Curley case? I was just thinking about how many people were involved in the search efforts—the Honolulu Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and volunteers using everything from jet skis to surfboards. It really shows how serious they were about finding him. It's curious that despite all those resources and efforts, not a single clue about what might have happened came up. You'd think in such a coordinated effort, something would turn up. Anyone have thoughts on whether areas like Waialae Beach Park have strong currents or underwater terrain features that could have played a role? Just trying to wrap my head around how someone could vanish without a trace under those circumstances.

It's been over a decade since Matthew Curley vanished while scuba diving in Hawaii, and I’ve been revisiting the case to see if there were any angles previously overlooked. I've come across a few reports indicating that the area where he disappeared is known for unpredictable currents and sudden water conditions that can catch even experienced divers off guard. Does anyone know if those conditions were particularly bad on the day Matt went missing? I feel like discussing atmospheric conditions or any weather-related reports from that day might shed some light on the circumstances. Also, were there any other incidents around that time that could have led to heightened awareness or increased caution among divers? Any insights or advice on where to dig further would be greatly appreciated!
