It's been a while, but I can't stop thinking about the families of Dwone Anderson-Young and Ahmed Said. It's truly devastating to lose someone so senselessly and with such hatred behind the act. But something that's stuck with me is the app that brought them together with Ali Muhammad Brown. It's terrifying to think about how a tool meant for connection and community can be twisted into something dangerous. For many, apps like the one used in this case are lifelines, especially in the LGBTQ+ community where meeting others can be daunting. It's supposed to be a safe space to find friends, love, and acceptance, but this tragedy shows the darker side of our digital world. I can't imagine the added trauma this betrayal of technology might bring to the families. The world can be a scary place, but it’s so important for us to continue creating safe spaces and supporting each other. My heart aches for those who loved Dwone and Ahmed. I hope they find some solace in the support of their community and the steps being taken to prevent horrors like this in the future. ?
