Did anyone else catch the detail about Jason Emery asking, "Are you gonna shoot me in the stomach?" before the second shot was fired? That line just won't leave my mind. It says so much about the fear and desperation of the situation. I can't help but imagine what must have been going through his mind in those last terrifying moments. The fact that he was trying to hold the door closed suggests he was actively trying to protect himself. It's devastating to think how a moment of bravery ended so tragically. My heart goes out to his family and friends who have to live with this loss every day. Thankful that the justice system acted quickly, but I’ll never comprehend how anyone can bring themselves to commit such violence.
