It's been over a decade since the tragic events at the Atlantis Plastics plant, and I still can't wrap my mind around the devastation caused in such a close-knit community like Henderson. My heart truly goes out to all the friends and families of the victims, like Rachael Vasquez and her co-workers. I read somewhere about how close Rachael and her co-workers were, often having lunch together and sharing stories about their lives outside work. It's unfathomable that such friendships ended so abruptly and violently. The fact that Wesley Neal Higdon expressed his deadly intentions two hours before the shooting adds another layer of sorrow and frustration. I wonder if workplace protocols or warning systems have improved since then to prevent such tragedies. We can't change what happened, but maybe acknowledging these issues can stop future violence. My thoughts remain with everyone affected by this senseless act.
