I’ve been thinking a lot about the tragic way Mandy was found and how incredibly tough it must have been for the officers that day. They’re often the first people to encounter such heartbreaking scenes, and it sticks with them too. We usually focus so much on the victim, and rightly so, but I can’t help but feel for those officers who walked into that situation expecting a welfare check and instead finding something so devastating. Mandy’s family must have had a gut feeling that things weren't right for a while, especially with the way she would seek refuge with them. It’s so painful that their suspicions about Paul's abuse turned out to be true. And to think, with Paul’s issues and Mandy’s struggles with addiction, maybe there could’ve been a different path if help had come sooner. It really brings to light how vital it is for communities to have strong support systems in place for families dealing with domestic issues and substance abuse. Sending love and strength to Mandy’s family. Let’s not forget the real stories behind these headlines.
