Hey everyone, I wanted to start a discussion about how the system seems to have failed Jacobi D. Herring and others like him. It's deeply concerning how the controversial "heat list" by the Chicago police has been criticized for its accuracy and effectiveness. Was Jacobi really given the support he needed to escape such a dangerous environment, or was he just another name on a list that failed to provide real solutions?
It's tough to think about someone so young trying to navigate a world where your surroundings can seal your fate. Being flagged as high-risk is one thing, but it's disheartening to think that might not come with adequate intervention or support. Have there been any community initiatives that have tried to counteract this approach with more positive engagement? It's important we learn from tragedies like Jacobi's and find ways to truly support at-risk individuals beyond just labeling them. Thoughts?
