It's truly devastating how a senseless act of violence can forever change so many lives. I can't stop thinking about how Lily's parents, Raven and Bruce, are coping with this unimaginable loss. Despite the conviction of Marcus Williams, I wonder how much closure it actually brings to the family. It's clear he was remorseful, but that doesn't bring Lily back or erase the suffering her family endures. Plus, it highlights a much bigger issue—how are we protecting our communities from gang violence? I hope that the increased efforts by authorities lead to more substantial change in Topeka. I’ve been reading about little Lily Mai Coats-Nichols and I just keep thinking about her family, especially how devastating it must be for her parents, Raven and Bruce. How do you even begin to cope with losing a child to such senseless violence? I can't imagine the pain they must be going through every single day. It’s comforting to know that there seem to be more efforts to address gang violence in Topeka after this tragedy. But it still feels so unfair that it took the loss of an innocent life to push for change.
