Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about that devastating night on December 16, 2018, when Taveon Brooks lost his life. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I was particularly moved by the accounts from the neighbors who experienced the chaos first-hand. Jesus Ortega’s comment about initially thinking the screams came from his own children really struck me. It must be unimaginable to be suddenly pulled into such a traumatic situation, not knowing what’s going on, and fearing for the safety of your own loved ones.
It’s been concerning to hear that there’s still no information on a suspect. I can only imagine how unsettling this is for the community and especially for Taveon's loved ones, waiting for justice and answers. Has there been any further discussion in the community about safety measures or support for those affected? I can’t stop thinking about the impact something like this has on a neighborhood's sense of security.
Also, that girl who ended up in the hospital—has there been any update on how she’s doing? It’s really tragic, not just for Taveon’s family, but for all those teenagers who were just out together that night. I hope they’re receiving the support they need. Anyone with insights from Kansas City, please keep us updated.
Stay safe, everyone.
Taveon Brooks' story just leaves me thinking about how fragile life can be, especially for these kids who were just out, probably thinking it was a regular night. I can't imagine the trauma those teenagers in the car are going through right now. Being so young and experiencing something this intense could change them forever. My heart truly goes out to Taveon's family—losing someone so young and vibrant is an unimaginable loss.

The neighborhood's reaction really struck me, too. Hearing Jesus Ortega and Siria Andio talk about waking up to gunfire and screams makes you realize how deeply it affected everyone around. It's incredible how one tragic act ripples through an entire community, leaving people worried and anxious. I hope the police can find out what happened and bring some sense of peace back to those who live there. It's rough not having any answers or knowing if the suspects are still out there. Stay safe, everyone.
