I’ve been thinking a lot about the role that anger plays in incidents like what happened with Airman Chancelor Williams. It’s just so chilling how quickly a celebration can turn into a nightmare. Parties are supposed to be happy, safe spaces where we connect with others, not places where arguments escalate into violence. It breaks my heart to think about Chancellor’s family and friends back in Spartanburg receiving that kind of news. I wonder if anything could have been done to defuse the situation before it turned deadly. Maybe others at the party were also worried or sensed tension building. I keep asking myself how we can better handle heated moments to prevent such tragedies. If there were more conversations about conflict resolution and recognizing when things are getting out of hand, maybe lives could be saved. Sending a lot of love and strength to those who knew Chancelor and to the other victims still coping with the aftermath of that night.
