I came across this case recently, and I can't stop thinking about the ripple effect of violence in our communities, especially involving such young individuals. It’s unfathomable to think how two masked gunmen could target a 14-year-old like Damion Blocker in a school stairwell, a place meant for growth and learning. I can only imagine the trauma this left on other students and staff at the Winston Education Center. The fact that the gunmen were just teenagers themselves raises so many questions about what leads youth to such violent paths. Damion’s life was cut short so tragically, and it’s a sobering reminder of the urgent need for support systems in place for at-risk youth. My heart goes out to Damion’s family and friends. No family should have to face such a loss. I hope that we can learn from these painful events and work towards creating safer environments for our kids.
