Wow, just thinking about the randomness and senselessness of some crimes makes my skin crawl. I can't help but wonder about those moments leading up to the attack. Joel and his friend were just walking, doing what normal people do every day, and then this nightmare unfolds.
It's such a relief they've made an arrest, but I can't imagine the wait and uncertainty Joel’s family must've gone through for those four years. The impact on them and his friend, who survived but must deal with the emotional scars, must be enormous.
I also find it intriguing that Olivia Cartwright-Cole was finally caught by CARFTF. I’ve read they handle tough cases and are pretty effective. Does anyone know more about how these fugitive task forces operate? I feel like they deserve more credit for the difficult work they do in piecing together these complex puzzles. Just praying the process brings more answers and peace to everyone affected.
I've been following the Joel David Midgett case ever since it happened in 2015, and I find myself thinking a lot about Midgett's friend who survived the attack. It must be such a complex emotional journey to be thrust into such a traumatic event and then to grapple with the aftermath. Surviving something like that changes you forever. I hope they have found some semblance of peace in the years since. It's easy to focus on the arrests and the legal proceedings, but we should remember the impact on everyone involved, not just the victim. Joel's friend must carry those memories every day, and that's something I wish people talked more about in these cases. Justice might bring some solace, but healing is a long road. My heart goes out to them and to everyone who loved Joel.
Did anyone else catch the detail about Olivia Cartwright-Cole being apprehended by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF)? It makes me wonder about her background and how she managed to avoid getting caught for several years. It’s so sad to think about what Joel's family and friends went through during that time, with no answers or justice for him.
Why do you think it took so long to track her down? Is it possible there were others involved who might still be out there? The fact that the police are still offering rewards for information makes me think there might be more to this story.
