It's been over two years since Nyiah Courtney's tragic passing, and yet, the pain still feels fresh in the heart of this community. What really gets me is how close Nyiah's murder hit to the innocence of childhood. The fact that she was just walking down Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue with her family on a summer evening, probably looking forward to what was supposed to be a carefree night, is just devastating. The twist with Marktwan Hargraves being an after-school counselor is chilling. It makes me wonder how someone who spent time shaping young minds could allegedly be involved in something so horrendous. Maybe it's a reflection of how deep-seated these systemic issues are, affecting even those who appear to be living constructive lives. It's easy to feel helpless with so much happening, but discussions like these might be the first step toward addressing the true depth of gun violence and its rippling effects. My heart goes out to Nyiah's family as they continue to navigate this unimaginable loss.
