Hey everyone, I’ve been following Larelle Washington’s case and something that's been weighing on my mind is how closely this incident ties into broader issues of youth safety in D.C. It’s devastating that Larelle, such a bright young student with so much potential, was caught in the web of violence that seems to be growing worse each year. What really strikes me is how his school, KIPP DC College Prep, has experienced not one but two violent tragedies involving students in such a short time. Schools should be safe havens, but for some, they're becoming the backdrop of such horrifying incidents. It brings up so many questions about what can be done to protect our youth from systemic violence. My heart genuinely goes out to everyone in the school community and Larelle’s family. I can't imagine the fear and grief they are going through. How do we as a community come together to make sure this doesn’t keep happening? There's so much more that needs to be discussed and done to prevent such losses. Curious to hear others’ thoughts.
