I've been following the Flores-Salas case since it first hit the news, and something that's really stayed in my mind is the memory vigil that the community held for him. It's so moving to see people come together in the face of such a terrible loss. Lighting those candles seemed like a powerful way to honor his life and shed light on the rampant issue of gun violence that affects so many families. I'm keeping his loved ones, especially his daughter Beatriz, in my thoughts—it's unimaginable to lose a parent so suddenly and in such a violent way.
