Hey everyone,
I came across something intriguing while digging through old newspapers about the case of James R. Balderson. It's been unsettling to learn about how vulnerable convenience store clerks were during that time period, often working alone late at night without much protection. James was just doing his job in Fort Collins when he was senselessly killed by Pruett, who seemed to have no regard for human life. It's scary to think about how many lives were shattered by one person's violent acts. My heart goes out to James’s family; I can’t imagine how they must have felt knowing he was just going about a normal day at work. Does anyone have more information on how stores have changed their security measures after incidents like this? Would love any insight or updates from locals who remember this case.
Stay safe,

I’ve been reading through the details of the tragic murder of James R. Balderson, and there's one aspect that I can't stop thinking about – the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Pruett's participation in the Federal Witness Protection Program. It's deeply unsettling to learn that Pruett was placed under protection after falsely testifying about a prison murder he actually committed. How could someone with such a violent history slip through the cracks like that? It makes me wonder about the failings of the system back then. My heart goes out to Balderson's family and all the other victims impacted by Pruett’s horrific actions. It's hard to fathom the grief they'd been feeling, knowing all of this could have been prevented. If only systems were more robust in checking the backgrounds of those they vowed to protect. Thoughts and prayers to all who suffered from Pruett's reign of terror.
