I've been following the case of Jeremy Martin's murder and something that's been on my mind is the effect this had on his partner and those in the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office. It must be incredibly difficult for them to come to terms with the events, particularly when they involve their own colleagues. From what I've read, Tai Chan was previously seen as a promising deputy with an excellent service record. To go from being commended to facing such serious charges must have sent shockwaves through their department. I can't even begin to imagine the emotional and psychological burden this must have placed on those who worked closely with both Martin and Chan. Losing someone in the line of duty is tragic enough, but having it happen under such circumstances has to be a whole other level of pain and confusion. My thoughts are with Martin’s family and all those impacted by this devastating incident. It’s heartbreaking to think of the children who lost a father and a community that lost a trusted officer.
