I wanted to talk about something that's been on my mind since I read about Kirk Reeves. We've all heard about how Kirk would light up the mornings for Portland commuters, but I’m curious about the darker side he faced while performing. It’s really upsetting to think about the abuse he endured—people throwing things at him just for doing what he loved. It makes me wonder how often street performers face harassment and why we aren't talking more about their safety. Does anyone else find themselves thinking about how we, as a community, can better support our local artists? Street performers bring such unique character and joy to a place, yet they seem so vulnerable. Kirk's story makes it clear that we need to step up our game when it comes to checking in on the wellbeing of those who entertain us every day. How can we create more supportive environments to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future?
