I can't stop thinking about the role that illegal gun trafficking had in the tragic deaths that year, including young Terrell Skyes. Even with strict gun laws in place, Chicago seemed to be flooded with firearms. It's chilling to realize how easily guns could be brought in from other states, turning neighborhoods into war zones. It makes me wonder what more could have been done to cut off these illegal sources and prevent people like Terrell from becoming statistics in such a violent chapter of our city's history. It's so crucial that we honor him and others by addressing these issues, focusing on the community's needs, and finding better ways to create safe environments where young people aren't just surviving but thriving. Let's keep discussing solutions and holding those in power accountable—Chicago deserves better.
